Game: ROCK FALL
Aim: Smash all the falling rocks
Method:
Click / tap on each falling rock. Answer the question in the box as quickly as you can.
There are only 4 questions in this game so it is quite short... if you can get those rocks!
Your final score is based on number of questions answered right / wrong, and the time taken.
4th grade / Measurements / Calculate & compare / Rectangles: how much bigger
To calculate the area of a rectangle, you multiply its width by its height. In this topic, you are asked to calculate the area of two rectangles and determine how much bigger the larger one is than the smaller one. To do so, you will need to calculate the area for both rectangles then subtract the smaller area from the larger. Your answer will be in units square.
Let's say you have 2 rectangles, one with dimensions of 5 m x 3 m and the other with dimensions 6 m x 4 m.
To calculate the area of the rectangles, multiply width by height.
The area of the first rectangle is:
Rectangle 1: Area = 5 m Γ 3 m = 15 mΒ²
The area of the second rectangle is:
Rectangle 2: Area = 6 m Γ 4 m = 24 mΒ²
The second rectangle has a bigger area than the first rectangle. The difference in area of the two rectangles is:
Difference in area = 24 mΒ² - 15 mΒ² = 9 mΒ²
So, you can see that the second rectangle has an area 9 mΒ² greater than the first rectangle.
This topic asks you to calculate the area of two rectangles and work out the difference in size. Your answers should be in square units such as square centimeters (cmΒ²) or square meters (mΒ²).
With our Rock fall math game you will be practicing the topic "Rectangles: how much bigger" from 4th grade / Measurements / Calculate & compare. The math in this game consists of 16 questions that ask you to compare areas of rectangles and say by how much one is bigger than the other.
ROCK FALL is based on the road traffic warning sign for falling rocks - a sign that seems a bit less useful than somebody getting up there on that cliff and actually doing something about it... Anyway, the rocks are falling and it is your job to stop them hitting the road below, or at least stopping them hitting the road below too many times and breaking it. Smash the rocks by clicking or tapping on them (not so easy in real life of course) - they will turn into snowflakes and float gently down into nothing.
There are 4 rocks to stop and not much time to do it (if you want to get a good score and get on the leaderboard). This game is fun and fast and requires good reflexes and a good strategy. Plan to break the smaller rocks first if you want a good score because the rocks fall faster as the game progresses. It also helps to decide where on their path you plan to click / tap the rocks.
